One White Wishing Stone

These activities could really be done with almost any counting or ABC book.  My family took a vacation to the beach recently, so this book was perfect to bring with us.

"One white wishing stone, smooth and round and cool."

Go on a scavenger hunt!  I made a list of all the items in the book and we set out to look for them.  My son was a little distracted to try and find everything on one walk, but over the course of the week, we found almost all the items!

Bonus:  SHARK baby!!!

"Two periwinkle shells I save just for myself.  With one white wishing stone, they'll sit up on my shelf."

Make your own counting "book" with things that interest you!  I rolled out some banner paper and marked out ten boxes, labeling them 1-10.  Then looking through our seashell collection, we matched them with their corresponding numbers.  My son loved learning all the different names of the shells, and he counted them with me as we put them on the paper.  Later, I wrote some rhyming verses to go with the shells, took some pictures, and made a book that we could read together as a souvenir from our beach vacation.
