"'Thunder and lightning are exciting,' said Elmer. 'And after the storm, we might see a rainbow.'"
Have some fun with Rainbows!
Rainbow Suds - We filled up the kitchen sink with warm water and dish soap, then put a rainbow of food coloring drops across the top. I gave my son a metal chopstick and he had so much fun stirring and playing with the colored bubbles!
"'That's the rainbow!' said Elmer. 'Come on, to the waterfall!'"
Rainbow Foam - I filled a clear glass bowl with water, sprayed the top with a layer of shaving cream, and put a rainbow of food coloring drops on top. I gave my son a squirt bottle filled with water, which when poured over the clouds, was supposed to make rainbow rain. It didn't quite work out that way, but the bright colors mixing in the white foam was still lots if fun!
"By the time the other animals arrived, Elmer was out of sight. Colors gradually began to appear in the rainbow. 'Hurrah!' cheered the animals."
Rainbow Fizzies - First, I laid out six colored plastic cookie cutters on a tray. Then my son helped me measure out a teaspoon of baking soda into each cookie cutter hole. Next, we sprinkled a little bit of different colored kool-aid on top of the baking soda. I filled up a small squirt bottle with water and let my son drizzle it over the powders. It was surprising to see the rainbow bubble to life!
