Blueberries for Sal

"Little Sal brought along her small tin pail and her mother brought her large tin pail to put berries in."

Pick some blueberries!  It would be a lot of fun to visit one of those "pick-your-own" type farms, but we just picked "blueberries" in the living room - and still had a good time!  I got out all the small cylinder blocks out of my son's block collection and scattered them around on the floor.  I gave my son a small sand pail and told him we were going to pick blueberries, and see who could get the most. I thought it was interesting that he grabbed the four blue blocks and then was done.  It didn't even occur to me that he would only want the blue "blueberries!"  So we played again, but this time I collected all the different kinds of blue blocks I could find, and scattered those around.  I guess color is more important than shape semblance when you're two years old!

"She was walking along, picking berries, and thinking about canning them for next winter."

Make something with blueberries!  We decided to make a pie, but went the easy route and just used a pre-made pie crust and a can of blueberry pie filling.  My son decided to have his excavator help press the crust down into the pie plate, and then we dumped in the pie filling and stuck it in the oven! Yum!
