"'Our grandpas all have stories -- no two are just the same. They have so much to teach us and deserve their special names.'"
Have your Littles add their Grandpa's name to the book! I asked my son what he liked to do with his "Papa" and he told me he liked going to the airport with him. So, I wrote a little poem about that (similar to the verses in the book), found a photo of the two of them at the airport, and let my son illustrate a new page for the book. Then, when we were re-reading the story, we read my son's page, too.
"'You are their precious young ones, and I can guarantee that they'll love you just as dearly... when you're all grown up, like me!'"
Reminisce about your own grandfather! Whether he is still living or not, tell your Littles about your grandfather(s). Get out old photos if you have them and share about your favorite things that you did together. I only knew one of my grandfathers and I called him "Grandpa Buck." I had never shown my son pictures of him before, so it was fun to get some out and tell my son about how we used to play card games together and keep score on a napkin. My son is a little too young to learn how to play Gin, but I plan to teach him when he's older. For now, we just played a pretend card game with silly rules and had a lot of fun.
