Owl Babies

"Once there were three baby owls:  Sarah and Percy and Bill."

Make some owl collage art!  I cut some owl bodies out of scrapbook paper while my son shredded some cotton balls.  After drizzling a little glue on the bodies, my son spread it around with a paintbrush, then stuck some "owl feathers" on the bodies.  We bunched up some tissue paper for beaks and added some construction paper eyes.  Lastly, we found a stick outside for them to sit on and we glued everything to a piece of black card stock.  (Of curse my son had to play with the owls a bit before we glued them down!)

"The hole had twigs and leaves and owl feathers in it.  It was their house."

Make an owl nest!  We collected sticks and leaves and chicken feathers from our backyard for our nest supplies, and rummaged through our recycle bin for some cardboard to make the tree trunk.  I inverted and taped together a soda box, cut a hole in it, and stuffed the inside halfway up with plastic grocery bags.  I set a small cardboard square on top of the bags, and we built the nest on top of that.  By "built the nest," I mean my son crammed tons of our backyard debris into the hole.  But who knows, maybe that's the way owls do it, too.  I made a little owl baby out of a make-up sponge wedge and my son loved playing with the nest set-up!
