Watch a watermelon seed grow! I had heard of growing bean seeds in a cd case, so I thought we would try to sprout a watermelon seed the same way. First I drew a small picture of the crocodile on a piece of card stock and let my son color it. I found an old, clear cd case and removed the inner black piece that was meant to hold the cd. My son loaded up the case with dirt, planted the watermelon seed in the middle, and then shut the lid - the hinged part being the top. Then I cut a "window" in the croc's belly and taped him to the outside of the case, making sure we could see the seed through the "window." Using an eye dropper, my son watered the seed through the slot near the top of the case and then we placed it in a sunny window. We checked on the seed every day, made sure it was well-watered, and after about a week, we could see it sprouting!
"BUUUUUURRRRRRPPP!!! Oh. Here's the seed."
Enjoy some watermelon and have a watermelon seed spitting contest! If your Little is too little for little watermelon seeds, or if you can only find seedless watermelon these days, you could always spit sunflower seeds instead!
