Into the Outdoors

"We pitch our tent among the trees and set off along the hiking trail."

Play in a tent!  I got down our small pop-up tent from the attic and my son "helped" me set it up in the backyard.  It was so exciting for him that he went a little crazy playing inside of it!  He asked if he could sleep in it that night, but he's still a little young and I don't think he would be able to settle down enough to actually fall asleep!  If you don't own a tent, a blanket thrown over some chairs is just as fun!

"The trail winds around the lake... and across a sparkling stream."

Go on a hike!  We took a vacation to Colorado for a wedding this summer and had the opportunity to go on a few walks similar to the one in the book.  We listened to chipmunks, found a babbling brook, and even saw a real bear one morning.  You don't have to wind around a lake to enjoy nature, though.  You'd be surprised what can enchant your Littles on a walk around the block.
